On Saturday, April 13th, Clayesmore was buzzing as the Class of 1984 returned. Classmates reunited, and for some of them it was the first time in many years they had seen their old friends. The reminiscing instantly began with stories and anecdotes, some of shared experiences and memories, and of course, the odd tale of mischief! 

We had a rare weekend of sunshine, so the group enjoyed catching up on the terrace overlooking the school fountain whilst waiting for their comrades to arrive. They all collected their room details and suitcases and headed over to Manor - the boys boarding house, which was their accommodation for the night; for tea and coffee.

At 1830, they reconvened in the main house; joined by more classmates, to enjoy a welcome drink on the terrace. A captivating display of photos dating back to 1984, and earlier, adorned a nearby table and photo board, and a game was organised to match recent pictures with older ones.

A delicious 3 course meal was served during the evening, accompanied by flowing wine and lively conversation. As the evening wound down, those staying overnight returned to Manor, with the last of the group retiring to bed around 2:30 AM.  

In the morning everyone regrouped for a much needed full english breakfast before gathering outside to wave goodbye to one of the party - who departed by Gyrocopter from the school rugby pitches. 

The remaining class of 84 enjoyed a 2-hour tour of the school campus. Some buildings like Kings (the girls boarding house) and the Business School were new to them having been developed after their time and they couldn’t believe how impressive the DT workshop was and how many tools and gadgets our students today have! Some sites were more familiar and the old squash courts - which is now the music block, seemed to be a particular source of amusement and laughing.

The weekend was a wonderful reminder of the friendships we make during our school years and that even though we all go onto lead different lives, those bonds made at such a formative time in our lives never really break.
